  3. UP AND ABOUT // Jerry Reports - South Africa Tour

    October 2, 2014 - by labeladmin

Just got back from deejaying in South Africa. Three dates, three cities and three different vibes.

For my second visit there, I understood this big country’s historical and geographical particularities much better and as a result the trip was a joy from start to end, highly captivating and educating, meeting everywhere genuine, loveable people from all backgrounds.

South Africa’s leading electrodisco dj and gentleman about town Tommy Gun invited me to his weekly Untamed Youth nights in Cape Town and Johannesburg. If there’s one party flying the flag for the good stuff in SA, this is it, and I sure wasn’t disappointed by the local crowds. Cape Town nurtures its European connections and almost felt like home, whereas Joburg is showing the future with a relaxed mixed crowd that dances like there’s no tomorrow, the groovier and slower the better. Next was the Park Acoustics festival outside Pretoria, a big regular event high up on a hill overlooking the city that stages the best local bands and djs to an appreciative crowd of young, up-for-it Afrikaners.
Fabulous memories and the feeling that all is yet to come with South Africa…

    Big shouts out to:
    Tommy Gun
    Wayde Herman
    Susan, Gilles & Lucy
    Christopher ‘Casioheart’ Wagner & boyfriend
    Data Takashi
Henk Van Der Schyf & Kyle Cancella
    Johan & Mathieu Auriacombe
    Hyphen
Hardy McQueen, Shitabile & Mandla ‘StreetBoss’ Mazibuko
    Trevor Mitchell & Yula
    Sorry for those I forgot

  4. OUT NOW // Kitsuné Trip Mode - Jerry Bouthier Mix

    September 16, 2014 - by labeladmin

Continental’s main man Jerry Bouthier has just released a new mixed cd “Kitsuné Trip Mode” inspired by the escapists’ moods of the catwalk (also available in digital).

The dj/producer behind the acclaimed Kitsuné BoomBoxPonystep and Soleil series (the latter in partnership with co-founder Gildas) makes a leap forward by introducing a gorgeous, dreamlike slant to dj mixes.

Music director of Vivienne Westwood’s labels for five years and collaborator of numerous designers such as Matthew Williamson, Sibling, Peter Jensen or Kokon To Zai, Jerry’s honed a new craft by conceiving the soundtracks of the London, Paris and Milan catwalk shows of some of the most innovative talents in fashion.

Blurring the lines between forward-thinking electronic music, indie grit and celestial soundtracks, ‘Kitsuné  Trip Mode’ sprinkles whimsical and enchanted phantasies over intricate beats and haunting vocals, dipping deep into cinematic landscapes, fairy tale-like moods and ecstatic melodies, an evocative, almost psychedelic, excursion that’s both gentle and off-kilter.

    Jerry concludes:

“In an often harsh world I find it is one of music’s duties to offer a safe haven where feel good feelings can lift you up and take you places,” said Jerry Bouthier. “I often think of the fashion shows’ soundtracks I work on as aural movies to let yourself go in and travel in the mind. As a result, for me, ‘Kitsuné Trip Mode’ is the perfect mix to groove and chill to with your loved one(s).”

  5. KAMP!

    September 9, 2014 - by labeladmin

    image

There’s something vague in the music of Kamp! Their hardly-describable sound surprised listeners both in the Balearic “Cairo” (Discotexas 2011), the house-indebted “Melt” (Brennessel 2012) and the raw, electronic “Baltimore”, which sets the tone for the entire EP prepared for the New York label Cascine. What all these singles have in common is the unusual ease in writing melodies, a feature not to be skipped in electronica of pop provenance.

Kamp! debuted in 2009 with the “Thales One” EP, the first attempt in Poland to go against the then-popular trends in electronica. Its follow-up, “Breaking A Ghost’s Heart”, is considered a milestone in the Polish history of the genre. Not attaching themselves to labels, in 2010 members of Kamp! released a double A-side “Heats/Distance of the Modern Hearts” a bit by accident, fitting into the role of “a new hope in Polish electronica” and attracting attention from international labels. The first international Kamp! release was out in 2011 on Portuguese label Discotexas. The premiere of “Cairo” was an impulse for Kamp! to head out in new directions that led to their debut album “Kamp!”, released on the band’s own Brennnessel label. Dream-pop musings, fitting the album just as well as house tracks, earned Kamp! over 10,000 copies sold and huge demand from clubs and festivals, starting in Shanghai, through London, to Los Angeles.

Late last summer, Kamp! secluded themselves in the Madrid Red Bull studio, writing a completely new set of songs. Dirty, slightly old-fashioned and very danceable, the “Baltimore” EP is out this August on Cascine Records, opening a new stage in the Polish trio’s history.

  6. BOYS GET HURT

    September 9, 2014 - by labeladmin

Already noticed for his remixes (Reflex, Chela, Autokratz, DCUP, Pherotone…) and with several releases under his belt (including a track on the ‘Bonjour Colette’ compilation), Tokyo-based Yuki Abe AKA producer/DJ Boys Get Hurt gets his inspiration from the melancholic feelings the end of summer inevitably brings about, a personal and evocative sensibility in tune with the land of the rising sun’s delicate culture. Yuki expertly crafts bouncy disco-house music with sprinklings of electronica, indie, ambient, hip-hop and R&B – the perfect pop for 2014.

  7. JBAG - THROUGH BLUE (feat. KAMP!) REMIX EP CONT017

    September 9, 2014 - by labeladmin

    image

Here’s part 2 of JBAG’s new single ‘Through Blue’ featuring the singer of Polish electronic band Kamp!

Following in the footsteps of last summer’s mighty ‘Mogadisco’, ‘Through Blue’ unfolds another sad yet happy melody albeit locked into a slick, pulsing groove. Topped by the boyish vocals of Tomek Szpaderski - he who with his two Kamp! accomplices is soon putting Poland on the map with a personal and inspired blend of indie-dance – ’Through Blue’ takes a meaningful turn bringing extra depth to an already endearing, emotive backing track led by nostalgic steel drums and pianos.

As well as JBAG’s useful instrumental mix, this second 4 track EP includes reworks from Continental label mates Mjolnir (Indonesia) taking a phat darker, deeper route (did you say big room?), Saint Pauli (Germany) opting for hands-in-the-air bliss (and the euphoria to match) whilst James Curd (Australia), fresh from signing to Exploited, has let his imagination run wild and provided extra vocals for a slightly more introspective skippy number.

This 17th records release on JBAG’s own imprint Continental, adds yet another nuance to the label’s palette of dj-friendly underground pop music.

Bringing a new dimension to deejaying, the London-based Franco-Italian duo comprising of Jerry Bouthier (dj/sound-designer, longtime Kitsuné collaborator) and Andrea Gorgerino (the pair’s studio/musician virtuoso) is now performing live dj sets as a unit with Andrea playing live keytar over JBAG’s own productions and other faves mixed by Jerry. Catch them on a stage near you soon!
